Best Deep Cycle Batteries

Deep cycle batteries are popular because they provide high discharge currents and reasonably big capacity at a reasonable price and volume.

They rarely require maintenance and are becoming increasingly prevalent on the market, particularly with the availability of Lithium options, which provide significant weight reductions.

Wet Batteries

Wet batteries are still available on the market. Still, they are not ideal because they are not spill-proof and require regular maintenance.

Numerous versions are both strong performers and reasonably priced. A typical example is the Trojan SCS150, which has a standard capacity of 20 hours and a reserve capacity of 2.5 hours.

Despite the fact that it is not intended to be a starter or dual-purpose battery, the Trojan SCS150 has a CCA value of 530 Amps and an MCA rate of 650 Amps. It also has a tolerable weight of about 22.6 kg.

Gel-Cell Batteries

Gel-Cell batteries require practically no maintenance. These spill-proof batteries are extremely stress-resistant and can be used in virtually any situation. Some devices even may still function perfectly when flipped upside down.

Even so, it is a good idea to inspect the batteries regularly for indications of physical deterioration, corrosion, or other issues. This is due to the fact that these batteries contain watered-down sulfuric acid combined with silica in the shape of gel.

These batteries are totally distinguishable, yet they function in the same way as wet batteries. On the other hand, these batteries sometimes have plates placed more densely but without increasing the risk of the units short-circuiting.

Renogy AGM 12V is a popular Gel-Cell battery option. This model features a well-balanced deep-cycle architecture that can also power lighter internal combustion engines.

Lithium Batteries

There are several advantages to using lithium batteries over other types of batteries. They weigh two to three times less than lead-acid batteries on average.

Furthermore, even when lithium batteries are drained, their capacity stays nearly constant. In high current settings, this results in a much larger weight difference.

Some versions can be conveniently linked in both parallel and series configurations. The Battle Born BB10012 model, for example, may be configured to produce battery packs with considerably higher capacity or voltage, such as 24V, 36V, and 48V.

Lithium batteries have a high starting cost. They do, however, live far longer than lead-acid batteries. Weight savings also lead to reduced costs in many systems. They will be even less expensive in the long term than lead-acid batteries.
